You helped our DR Congo team complete construction of showers and latrines for thousands living in camps

You made a lot happen in less than three months.

Earlier this year, we got an urgent request from our team in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They needed funds to construct latrines, showers and wash stations for thousands of families living in camps.

Conflicts between armed groups and government forces in the eastern part of DRC forced hundreds of thousands of people out of their homes and into makeshift settlements.

Because of people like you, our health care heroes were already there, providing care and medicine for children, women and men. But with the new rush of families, the team knew that more support would be needed, especially because there was already an outbreak of cholera.

In some sites, there were less than 30 latrines, when at least 300 were needed to accommodate the growing population. Showers — even water for handwashing — were almost nonexistent. Without adequate hygiene structures, disease would continue to spread.

You answered the call for support and helped fund the construction of 48 latrines, 24 showers and 100 handwashing stations.

Your response was incredible — and lifesaving. Even more impressive, this initial phase of construction was complete in less than three months.

Thank you for your swift and generous response. Desperate situations, like this one in the DRC, don’t often make headlines. It’s your support that equips life savers to save lives wherever they are needed.
