Dr. Tamar Chitashvili

Technical Director, Maternal & Neonatal Health, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience

Dr. Tamar Chitashvili is an obstetrician and gynecologist and public health professional with more than 20 years’ experience in providing technical oversight of development, implementation and monitoring of maternal, newborn and child health, family planning and reproductive health (MNCH/FP/RH) programs. She has also directed non-communicable disease service delivery and health system strengthening programs, policies and interventions across Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eurasia and South Asia.  She leads the maternal and neonatal health technical portfolio for the USAID-supported MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience project for IMA World Health.  

She previously served at University Research Co., where she provided technical oversight of the MNCH/FP/RH and non-communicable diseases portfolios for the USAID ASSIST global project in 27 countries. Prior to this, as country director and chief of party, she led complex USAID-funded projects in Georgia. She also served as a head of the Health Policy Department at the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs, where she provided strategic technical direction to the health and social sector reform in the Republic of Georgia.

Tamar received her medical degree from Tbilisi Sate Medical University in Georgia, an M.S. in Health Policy and Management from the University of Southern Maine Muskie School of Public Service and a graduate certificate in Applied Research and Evaluation Methods, also from the University of Southern Maine. She holds medical licenses in general practice and obstetrics and gynecology.
